Geez not this thread again.........I know many of you hold out hope for a
reunion but maybe you have not been paying attention the past 25 years
...Robert does not want to tour as Led Zeppelin again and sing those 30 year
old songs!!...Even when he plays them on his solo tours he does new
arrangements, which are excellent, but in many cases far from the
originals....Hell he has spent the last 20+ years trying to distance himself
from the Led Zeppelin legacy and create his own identity......As someone
pointed out he does not need the money or adulation anymore and seems
content doing his own thing........
Even Jimmy sounds like he is finally resigned to the fact that he can't hang
onto the past if his last few interviews I read are any indication.....not
that I doubt he would jump at chance to tour with Plant and JPJ again if
the opportunity presented itself............
I saw P/P in Boston on the orchestra tour, and while it was very good and I
enjoyed it immensely, it was pure nostalgia as it could never be as it once
was............Same goes for the Stones, who I saw about a dozen times on
the Licks and Bigger Bang Tour....Great shows but they are bordering on a
Vegas act now...The new albums are o.k. but no classics in the bunch....Also
saw the Who...really hard to accept them calling themselves the Who with two
of the original members passed on.....was it an entertaining show....yes but
again not the Who in my book........The new Who album, while stronger then
the Stones effort, is average at best........
It has always been my theory that most bands have about 6-8 years where they
create the bulk of their classic music and after that they lose their edge
as fame, fortune and egos seem to take over and the music gets
mediocre....Give it try and make a list of your favorite bands and list all
of their music and see what they produced after 6-8 years together and I
think you will be surprised........there are some exceptions but not many I
can think of.........Stones have not made a good album since the mid to late
70's, if you are honest with your self, Zep solo stuff not even close to the
real Zep stuff, Pink Floyd boys the same thing..The Who not since the mid
70's....I could go on and on.........
I would live to see the boys tour again but only if their hearts were in it
100% and at this point I don't think Robert could do it..........
I am not knocking any of these bands as the Stones and Led Zep are my two
favorites of all time and I love the original Who but
best to remember them as they were in the glory years and leave it at
that..........As someone who saw many of these great 60/ 70's bands in the
glory days and on recent reunion tours you would be disappointed if it ever
came to pass............... just my 2cents
