I'd first start off with asking what kind of audio card you are using and what it can handle. Then decide for yourself what are your plans for the digitized audio...self pleasure or trade, possible dvd-a material, archiving to DAT etc etc. Then look at what your software is capable of.

Minimummmm 16 bit 44.1Khz to get it to CD. I do almost most of mine as 24 bit 48Khz, doing my work, and then dithering down the final mix to 16 44.1 for burning to cdr.
