RE: welcome to the circle....

can't say when i first heard Zeppelin........my grandfolks had a cafe down in the Ozarks when i was a kiddo, and the juke box was full of rock. i _know_ that's the first place i heard the Doors and Who, so reckon it was probably also the first place i heard Zep.

the first time i KNEW i was listening to Zeppelin was at the "Freshman Frolic" or whatevert dorky name it had. a "mixer" after school one day---watery punch, lots of people with no self-esteem, etc. you know what 9th grade is like. : P anyway, the prez of the senior class was doing his best Wolfman Jack, and we had real rock. Zeppelin, Bowie, Queen, Who, Stones.......all the biggies of the 70s. anyway, i realized then that i had been hearing this "Led Zeppelin" group for a long time, but just didn't realize they had done all those totally different types of music. as a longtime singer and player (woodwinds and electric organ), i was really impressed with their versatility. they just didn't sound the same on each song.......they did all sorts of styles, and were damned good at all of 'em! so i was impressed, but still not a "fan".

THEN..........The Song Remains the Same happened. holy hezakiah! it was a life changing experience. i found religion. i began to worship at the oh-so-paganly elemental, orgiastic temple of Zeppelin. yeah, the fantasy sequences are somewhat embarrassing, but damn! surrounded by speakers, with the boyz on that HUGE screen in front of me. well, i forgave them all the goofiness, as the concert footage and pure, raw power of the music more than made up for it. i also developed an instant, unreasonable hatred for that chick with the blue eyeshadow. ; ) (you KNOW she got invited backstage)

anyway, since then, life's been a great adventure. and they have always managed to be relevent to whatever is going on in my life at any time...........either as a group, or as solo artists. got my first boot in the 90s sometime, courtesy of our own JR! (thanks, sweetie, for the MANY boots you've sent me.......i even finally got a cd player so i could hear 'em! lol) and i've always gotten a bit of a thrill each time one of the guys has put out a new album. i don't post much, as i'm not a gearhead, or a major collector.....honestly, i really don't give a damn how many different version there are of some concert. i just want a good, decent-sounding recording. ; )

anyway, to me, there are 2 "greats" in the world of music.....Mozart and Led Zeppelin. (i like too many jazz artists to figure who i think is the greatest amongst them) they both have the ability to take me out of myself, and totally change my mood. i always feel like i've just had a great vacation.......or really fantastic..uh...interlude with someone special..........when i finish listening to 'em. relaxed, serene, and energized. cripes, after the '95 concert, i was up for like 2 days straight. too energetic to even think of sleeping! i think everyone i knew hated me for a while there. heh.

ah well, enough rambling. i like Zeppelin because they touch my soul in some way. and i like FBO because of all the great people i've met here over the last decade plus, and the interesting things i've learned about my fave group since i've been here.

take 'em easy----
