Anyone remember their first ever Zep boot ?
I purchased "Destroyer" on vinyl from someone on DG in....probably 95 or
96. I had read about the show in Charles Cross' "Heaven and Hell" and
coulldn't beleive how much cooler the band sounded than in TSRTS. It was
even a bigger thrill when the local calssic rock station played the entire
show in it's entirety on the air during the first Grantfest...errrr
Zepfest in 1996. I think it was Friday Night in Annie and Buzz's room we
were listening to it, but I am honestly not sure......and then that
weekend I also heard several other boots for the first time.
Or recording off the radio ? I
I would regular tape the nightly "Zepset" and "Get the Led Out" from two
local radio stations, WBLM and WHEB. I only wanted to get a recording of
"Black Dog" but as I heard these other songs over and over and over I
started getting into the band more and more. I was amazed when I purchased
the fourth albums how many songs I had already known before I even got
into Zep. I figured, looking at the songs, I would only know "BD" and
"Stairway".... boy was I wrong.
do. It was when my older bro first recorded the BBC rock hour aka King
Biscuit of Zep. I friggin listened to that tape over and over and over
untill I had every single note, word and snap crackle pop ( FM in the burbs!)
memorized. I was forever transfixxed by it.
WBLM had played a lot of BBC stuff in some of the Zepsets, and it was
exciting the first time I heard it since it was new versions of songs.
I want to know just what is it that makes folks like me, you and the 1200 +
here on FBO love Led Zeppelin. Why do we still follow them ? Why do we still
admonish them? Why do we still want to see them errrrrrr re-unite again ?
WHY?!?!?!
Well, Unless there is some way to electronically make Bonzo's skeloton
play like he could when he was alive I don't wantto see a Zep reunion.
However, while I highly doubt I will ever see it, I would love to see
P^2+J do a few shows like Cream did......I don't care who is on drums as
long as he is good. I just wnat to hear them again.....at the same time
I'm happy hearing any new music from any of them.
I still love tehm because.....while I have not listened to much Zeppelin
lately, no matter what mood I'm in, there is always an appropriate song.
Out opf ALL of the many bands I love, I cannot say that for any other band
or musician. Their music has touched me like no other.

Warts and All, DG to FBO was the forefather of all that is today's internet
Zeppelin community. It is what YOU make of it.
This is true, With all of the spinoffs and such that spawned from this
list, it's amazing to me that it is still going today and has generally
kept about the same amount of members the entire time (ranging between
1100-1300)
It's almost like while we lose people, we continue to gain people.
And I, for one, am proud to be part of this community and constantly want
to find ways to improve it and the discussion on it. This is a good start.
Thanks Nech. Actually I think I will make a second post just saying
"THANKS NECH!"
kidding..... :)
