I think you should let other's sentiments be expressed by them. Offensive? If
you're that thin skinned then I suppose it could be.
Also, I'm not sure who made you Nech, or anyone, the moderator of this list.
Notice that I haven't had any rants on other people posting off topic lately?
People got tired of hearing it so I stopped.
For some reason me posting a few off topic posts in the last few days is
unacceptable but other people do it on a daily basis and it's just peachy.
That's
why this list has been going downhill for years now. I think I echo others'
sentiments when I say that people get tired of a small handful of regulars
posting and if you oppose their view then to hell with you. Why do we have,
what,
over fifteen hundred members, yet only four or five ever post?
Since it was brought up that my off topic posts are unwelcome, let me then
ask why my one or two off topic posts lately aren't ok but in just the last day
or two I can come up with several examples from other people.
-I will be watching with bated breath from Ann Arbor...may the best team
-win...
-GO BLUE!
-Lisa
(a post about a college football game, but that's just fine)
-Edible or not, I would eat those off of her. Even though her feet
-could use a little scrubbing.
- Cosmic
(a post about eating a womans pants off.. not offensive at all)
-OH man..Jeremy..roflmfao...you got me cracking up now...ok, THAT was a
funny
-comment.
-I gotta keep this one...it's too funny. Maybe it's just how it struck me,
-but I'm still laughing!!!!!
-V
(sorry Von but I'm trying to make a point)
So my making a crack about an old record executive, ask about slide guitar
tunings, ranted Paul off.. and that makes me the bad guy that should just shut
up for now.
So what we're saying here is that you'd rather read email after email that
say nothing but "i agree" "thanks for the link" "i did this and that at work
today" "i drank a lot of beer and listened to some zep", mixed in with the
informational and conversation worthy posts. But if Sam says anything off topic
or
something with a little bite to it the world comes to an end.
Although not expressly mentioned, you do have a good point. My posts have
been pointless and basically worthless for a while now. Understood and point
taken. But what about all the other crap that floods this list every day. I
can't
imagine the poor people on digest that have to read the same post five times
just because someone wanted to ad "thanks for the link" on the bottom and
"yeah.. thanks also for the link".
And since I've come this far, can we all just get off the damn PC kick for a
bit. A man of Ahmet's age falling and smacking his head, and going into a coma
doesn't look good does it? So I said he's probably gonna die. So what. It'll
be sad for his family and friends and people he's worked with over his career.
Anyone's passing is something that should be respected and is grief worthy.
However, no one on this list knows the man personally and to take on this
holier than thou attitude for saying kind words about him is a bit too much.
Every
time someone even associated with the band gets ill so many people jump at the
chance to post things like "get well soon Jimmy! We're praying for you!". I
think too many people have sat in front of their computer for too long and have
let the internet take over their psyche. Just the basic idea of posting a
personal get well message to a person that will never read it, is alone,
bizarre.
It's like walking around a mall showing everyone a sign that reads "get well
soon grandma" while grandma sits in a hospital room all alone. It makes you
feel like a good person but serves no other point.
Since most people have stopped reading by now I'm going to stop wasting my
time ranting. This month is my ten year anniversary on this list. I have to say
it's been one of the highlights of my internet and music experience since. But
I think it's time to throw in the towell. There have been plenty of good
people here, and still are, but I'm getting tired of the one day you make good
points and good to hear from you and the next.. shut up we don't want to hear
your opinions.
I can get every bit the same Zep news and information from the top Zep sites,
and do it without all the personal posts about listening to zep at work.. or
guess what my kid did today.. or i just drank some beer and I'm gonna go drink
some more.
And just for the record, Ahmet may very well die. Will the sites and news
agencies that report his death be considered offensive for doing so? I mean
really folks, I'm sorry I cracked a bad joke about the man and said he'll
probably
die. I just couldn't bring myself to feign conern over a man I've never met
and come up with some sugar coated get well message. Honestly, how many of you
lost sleep last night worrying about whether Ahmet Ertegun was going to pull
through or not?
Sorry for leaving on such a sour note after a decade but I can't sit here and
let myself get upset over critisizms from people I've never met coming to me
through email. It's just the internet. It's just a band from the '70's that we
commonly enjoy. Nothing more. Some of you need to stop taking everything so
damn seriously. This list has lost regulars on a consistent basis since I
joined. Now all it is is a group of four or five people having a daily bs
session
about their personal lives and somehow manage to justify it by saying that a
zep song was on in the background or by saying that at least one out of ten of
their posts are informational.
It's really sad when my other music lists, like the Hendrix one, are miles
ahead of this one. People actually post about music and keep their personal
lives and "very cool, thanks for the link!" posts out of the mix.
Goodnight, and good luck FBO.
Rev. Sam
P.S. please don't waste any time on my account by slamming me in personal
email.. I just don't care anymore. My time on earth is growing very short and I
can't waste time getting upset about people's bitchy emails. Feel free to trash
me on the list as you'd like. I'm sure it'll get a lot of "i was listening to
zep on my computer at work after having had drank a beer and watched my
little kid dance to the song and laughed my ass off at your post so thank you
for
posting it" responses anyway.
