Zep-U2 jam

I enjoyed the U2 vid-- nice idea!-- though I could have made a better one
myself. Seems kinda half-baked and rushed. One could argue that Zep was
mildly dissed, but hey: They made sure to get Bonzo in there at the right
drumming moment. No God but God-- even Bono knows that.

No Page, but heck, when I think of guitarists who AREN'T Page, I think of
the Edge.

No sign of Daltrey or Townshend-- am I wrong?

I've only watched it once but I can tell you this: NO Dylan, YES George
Harrison (rather prominently), and the Stones footage (one second's worth at
most) is an overhead shot from their July '69 Hyde Park concert after Brian
Jones died-- you can see Jagger, and Keef is there as well, but not much
could compete with Mick in his white blouse on that day!

The use of U2 as crowd members reminds me of the inside covers of the two
Beatles LP comps, "62-66" and "67-70", in which the Fabs were seen in a
crowd peering in through a heavy iron gate (Buckingham Place, maybe?). Like
a lotta U2, "It's been done, honey."

No Freddy Mercury either. No Peter Gabriel. One begins to wonder about how
and why these brief moments were chosen-- it was clearly not meant to be
comprehensive, or even necessarily U2's faves. I'm sure you smart cats will
figure it out and let me know.

I'm as train-spotterish as anyone, I suppose, but I need to know why I'm
looking-- and if there's ultimately a point. Maybe the point is that there
IS no point. That would be SO Bono, taking the piss.

Oh yeah-- pretty generic U2 song on top of all that.

Hmm.... Bonzo from RAH at around the 2:39 mark seems to the first appearance
of a Zepster. Unless those are his feet on the pedals earlier on.

You get Plant from RAH at around 2:53 (just before Vladimir Horowitz!). Nice
that Zappa is the first musician seen of all.

A lot of people are given prominence before anyone from Zep is seen--some
who deserve to be mentioned ahead of our boys, but some who most assuredly
do not. The White Stripes, fer fu@k's sake. Kinda lame.

Having the members of U2 seen as crowd members is such a nice touch--oh
look, how humble.

And where are the Beatles, as one Brazilian contributor to the Youtube
thread wonders? Must be a rights issue.

In other words, this is a video about which musicians U2 thinks matter
most/influenced them/were influenced by them/therefore are worthy of their
tribute... just as long as the rights to visuals of them performing can be
obtained.

Or does the shortness of each clip place it under the "fair use" definition?
If so, there would have been no restriction on using Beatles clips. And if
so, U2 are clearly dissing one of the top 3 rock bands ever.

Although some claim to have seen Harrison, but others claim it's Keith
Richards.

Is Bob Dylan in there? Not that I could see...

I guess one should look at the bright side: no sign of poseurs like Sheryl
Crow, Oasis, Lenny Kravitz, Bon Jovi...
