Plant stuff

As Tangoman tried to post yesterday whilst things were poo-tee-weet ( he wrote me asking for assistance in posting) there are already some RPSS sets floating through the ether. Both 3/14 & 3/24 are on eztorrent. I just got through listening to 3/24 Irving Plaza, the show I should've been at, and contrary to my earlier statements, I am now not all that depressed about it. All in all a good show and I'm sure much much more engaging if you were there, but there were some things I guess I just didn't flip for.

Although all the reviews seems to gush about the reworked Zep numbers I myself don't find them errrrrrrr, wellllll, "working" for me. I mean why bother with NQ anymore? It's been blasphemized to death already, and other than a continued snub in Jones face, I just don't see the point or re-re-reworking it anymore. Sure , probably being there at Irving, hopped up on something or another it probably really made for a cool soft spoken weathered oh yeah, mature entrance ( note 'trance' seems to be a recurring theme...) but listening throught the crowd noise, it was just dirgish if that's a word.. Shine it all around certainly comes off well live but seems to teeter on the cusp of club trance music to a pothead's dream sequencer. Don't see the point of another re-re-make of BD keeping the cock rock lyrics yet stripping the original in your face Jones riff other than a dig at... oh yeah made that point already. Have no idea what Freedom Fries is about but hope I enjoy the album version when I can hear it properly. The Dreamland numbers come off great I must say and also for that matter does Tall Cool One. As poppish as that was, SS does a great job of rockin it up and it's needed in the light of the heavy number of slower numbers Robert's doing. That's the Way left me melancholy just thinking about how great Zep sounded doing this live with just the 3 of them up there with Bonzo throwing in an occasional spooning. SS does it justice indeed. Tin (PC)an Valley (I've seen several takes on the title) takes too long to get to speed IMO but then again could be a bit drawn out live and am hoping for a more concise version on MA.

Levee made me wonder how many people really had the OMGII version playing in their head as they rabidly sang along to this version. Yeah, once it got up a head of steam it was rolling but I really really wonder how many folks understand or care for the Delta blues rooted beginning.

Enchanter made me wanna go dig up Lightning Laser and for a guy who hates the hell out of Stairway, I wish Robert would just live without WLL for a day.

Still, I highly recomend you grab this one as it's downloading like a banshee as is Austin and the sound is pretty good till a better version comes along. Even though I might not agree with some of it, Robert does sound great and I hope he keeps on keeping on and also hope that by the times he comes round again and I can get to see him his setlist will go beyond 50% Zep rehashing and includes more of his never stuff. Oh yeah, listen for the '73 flashback m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m m
