Thanks for mentioning them, Nick and Perry . . .
also don't forget (burnin') Vernon Reid.
or Reggie Lucas: along with Peter Cosey [former soundman for the Art
Ensemble of Chicago] the twin-guitar foil of Miles Davis '73-'75.
Al McKay of Earth, Wind and Fire.
Ernie Isley.
Bill Connors was really awesome on that Return To Forever album, "Hymn Of
The Seventh Galaxy" [1973].
one Sonny Sharrock album to check out is "Ask The Ages" [1991] which
features Pharoah Sanders on tenor saxophone and Elvin Jones on drums. Great
recording and guitar playing.
Mike Stern - a killer straight jazz album of his is "Standards (and other
songs)" [1992]. Also "We Want Miles" [1982], live with Miles Davis.
Bill Frisell's playing on the latest Paul Motian (one of my favorite
drummers) album "I Have the Room Above Her" is wonderful . . . this album's
a reunion of the classic Motian - Frisell - Joe Lovano trio which has worked
together since the 1980s.
Peter Berstein's guitar with the Larry Goldings (Hammond B-3) - Bill Stewart
(drums) organ trio is top-notch.
check out Tony Purrone, who's played with (tenor saxophonist) Jimmy Heath
and others since the 1980s. His own albums are on the SteepleChase label .
. . I only have the first one called "Set 'Em Up" [1996], where he performs
his own originals, a few standards plus a Herbie Hancock - and a Wayne
Shorter - tune, each.
Adam Rogers ! ! !
Kurt Rosenwinkel - another NYC downtown jazz guitarist who's also played
with Paul Motian's group - is pretty amazing too.
John McLaughlin [ZC: Jimmy Page's & John Paul Jones' former studio session
colleague] got mentioned, right?
peace,
Chris Hofgren

Don't forget the "guitar army"!!!!
Eddie Hazel, Gary Shider, Micheal "Kidd Funkadelic" Hampton, DeWayne
"Blackbird" McKnight, and/or Cordell "Boogie" Mosson.
Were Pete Cosey or Sonny Sharrock (R.I.P.) mentioned at any point in this
thread? Sonny can send me into seizures, and Pete Cosey melts my face...
