I posted a comment on this article. I had to go
through the usual register process, but I had a
mission LOL
What I wrote:
Okay, dissing Zeppelin because they took some (at the
time) very obscure American music being ignored
because it was black guys, and turned it into this
phenomenal, incredible sound that Howling Wolf only
wished he could do - well that's ignorant.
Robert Plant has said innumerable times how much he
worships those old blues artists, and how happy it
makes him to think that he and Jimmy Page helped bring
them out of obscurity into the limelight.
Same can be said of all the other artists mentioned.
Bottom line, we AMERICANS are responsible for the
British invasion phenomenon. We refused to bother
with our own native geniuses. Jimmy Hendrix had to go
to London to get recognition, BTW. Little Richard,
James Brown, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters all got
revitalized careers due to the popularity of the
Stones, the Who, Zeppelin, etc.
And we DO have homegrown Rock Gods - the Doors, for
instance. CCR. The Band. Zappa. The DEAD.
I have a suggestion. Storm Virgin records, get all
those Zeppelin, Stones, Beatles, Who albums.
Then give them to ME.
