Ouch! Please don't ever do that again! My eyes! my eyes!! But then

Someone buy that man a burger!
77 Had it's moments. Of course biased to 6/77 MSG but compared to the
other shows that are out in in better sq, the MSG stand was one of the
finer runs in'77. Of course there's LA as well, but in between some are
( in retrospect and with jaundiced ear ) a tough listen. Jimmy's
blistering fretboard melting pyrotechnics of '69 degenerated into a guy
noodling around with his latest effect...yeeeeshh.. Steve Miller's
comment hit the mark on that.
2. Plant's voice was sort of stuck in an unpleasant midrange growl mode. He no
longer hit the high notes from earlier years, but the rich low range he had in '75
wasn't there either. Then add that horrible harmonizer effect that was too primitve
to produce actual musical harmonies and at times he sounded like he was vocal
effects for the soundtrack of some horror movie!
So what's your preference ...caterwauling or mr harmonizer man ? I still
prefer 69 Plant to 77 if I say so myself.
3. The long, extended No Quarter jams and the solo guitar noise parts gave the
concerts a sense of excess.
I hate to say it, but just why did Jimmy insist on those ? I mean , it
sort of reduced that whole bow thing into schtick. If someone had the
guts to tell him back then, "hey cut the bow to 2 minutes and segue into
ALS pronto", man that would've saved alot of eardrums from permanent
tinnitus.Hmmmmm,The NQ gave them a chance to play with the laser
oscilloscopes, Bow solo laser pyramids, Bonham at times was hotter than
those lights in his riser, 20 octaves of a bum note....my God were they
just caught up in the newfangled show toys and it overtook them at times
? I know with a good buzz on I can just play with my wah wah all night
long ! wah wah hwaaaahhhh ooowaaaaaaaaaah
waaaaaAAAAAiiiEIIAaaaaAhhhhhhh! hhhh! hhhh! hhhh! ( echoplex! )
kewl ;-)
interview with Steve Miller who said when he saw Zeppelin at one '77 show, Page
sounded like a kid who'd just bought his first fuzz box
