Good point! I think many fans tend to develop a false sense of intimacy with
the musicians whose music they like. They gradually become their "best
friends" when in reality, they might be total jerks! Consequently, if
someone criticizes the musician for whatever reasons, it becomes an attack
on the fan's "best friend."

Ok, I'll bite here. Why oh why would you have to like a person to like
their work. This statement makes absolutely no sense. I'm not saying I
hate Robert in the least, I am just saying it is possible outside of BIW to
like the music of someone, all the while not liking that person at all. I
really don't think to many actually "hate" Robert, just dislike this or that
around him.

Just an observation.
How does one proclaim themselves a major fan of Led
Zeppelin while hating one of the 2 frontmen, one of
the icons of the band, one of the guys everybody
thinks of when Zep is mentioned(uninformed casual
listeners, people who HATE Zep, etc etc)????
Cause let me tell you, I'd say that all us Plant
lovers, are also VERY fond of Jimmy, not to mention
Bonzo & JPJ.
So, how does that work?
