Hey FBOers,
I figured that my question will get a thorough answer here. So here it is: I
know that you're not supposed to leave your CDs in the sometimes sweltering
heat of
the your car interior, but is it really that big of a deal?
Years ago when I was just a young know-nothing, I left my friend's uncle's
vinyl
copy of TSRTS in the backseat of my '70 Road Runner, for over a week. I had
borrowed
it to make a cassette tape of it, and I kept forgetting to take it out of the
car at
the high school. Needless to say, that was a bad way to learn about heat
warpage.
Man you could have surfed to Kasmir on those waves! lol. Anyway, I did buy him a
replacement, which (being low on funds) defeated my original purpose.
I saw how vinyl reacts to that level of temperature, but I have never had
any
noticable similar reactions with my regular CDs, and I keep at least 10
selections
in my car at all times. Has anybody had a "regular" CD warp from heat?
I'm actually probably beating around the bush, because my main concern is
with
CDRs. I have heard that direct sunlight on the surface of a CDR can make short
order
of one. Although I don't plan on laying any out in the sun or anything, I would
like
to keep some of my Zep CDRs in my car where I listen to them most.
How bad of an idea would it be to leave a couple of them Zeps in my car
where I
can enjoy them? For reference, I live down south in North Carolina, and it can
get
pretty toasty inside of the Mazda on a Carolina summer's day.
Is warpage the only factor with the heat, or is there an ink degradation
issue
too? Also, if warpage is a legitimate concern, how much warp will it take to
make an
audible difference? Would you be able to "see" that amount of warpage just by
looking at the CD?
Just a Ripple In the Ocean,
Kelly
