Hi Badgeholders,
I've made my own version of the Knebworth DVD (which has taken quite
some time!).
I have basically taken the 3 DVD No label Video, and the Return of the
Dinosaurs 'soundboard stereo' audio, and created my own 5.1 surround
version.
I've managed to get it onto 2 DVD, although this has meant that
the video is not quite as good as on the 3DVD set (it is more like the
'Return of the dinosaurs' quality, but still excellent).
Incidentally, the 'Soundboard Stereo' claims of the Return of the
Dinosaurs set seem overrated IMHO , as if you look with a sound editing
program, there is only the slightest difference between the 2 channels.
This still seems the preferred audio by most people however, so that is
what I used.
Regarding the 5.1 mix I created, I have sent mostly cymbals out of the
rear speakers (SL and SR), filtered cymbals slightly from the FL and FR
channels, and boosted treble from the centre speaker for mainly
Vocals&Guitar. I have also created an LFE channel (80-120HZ).
I then used an excellent program called 'Soft Encode' to encode the 6
mono wav files into a single .ac3 file
I have also filtered out almost completely the audio interference that
starts at the end of Kashmir, and have re-equalised lots of the quieter
parts
and volume fluctuations.
Overall I think it sounds better than the other versions of the show I
have heard, and especially much more listenable due to the noise
reduction. (although admittedly I am only a novice at this kind of
thing).
Finally, I've set chapter points, and created a 'Menu' on each disc.
I haven't got the time at the moment to administer a tree due to work
commitments, but am happy to supply a copy of the 2 DVD's to anybody who
has the time to administer the tree. I can only burn DVD+R's.
Please E-Mail me privately if interested in running a tree.
Regards,
Ian.
