Re: New Thread - What Kind of Solo Project Would You Like to See JP Do?

No, you and JP might not feel like writing anymore, and that's just
fine.

The world may be trying to bully you into doing more, but it's none
of their business--it is YOUR life. Jimmy has some kids, and a cute
young wifey, and he probably wants to be the daddy to them he didn't
get to be when he was so busy with Zep. Some folks can understand
that. Quality of life, and all that sorta thingy. Besides, he can
sit on his duff and still be worth $65 million, so why not rest if
you are hurting, and let yourself heal a little?

:)

I get it all the time. I have two degrees, a few past local music/tv
awards, used to have a group, but it got me nowhere but broke. Lots
of publicity, lots of back-patting, and folks thinking you must be
rich, rubbing elbows with the local gentry, but the reality is much
different, and I've spent the last ten years of my life trying, and
not too well, to pay back all the money I spent on my "education," so
to speak. Lots of label interest, lots of offers of charity gigs,
but no contracts and no cash.

People don't realize how much this stuff costs, and how hard it is to
recoup the money you spent, and you have to live in the meanwhile. I
would have thought that the last few Zep offerings would have sold
better, but, like many have noted, they didn't, so I'm sure Jimmy
would rather sit and do this one "right," and pray he has a label
interested in backing it. If you notice, big acts like Plant and
Elton John have jumped to Sanctuary. Somehow, I am betting Atlantic
won't put out Jimmy's new one, either. Just a thought.

Funny thing is, my 15+ year old tunes just recently got reclassified
as "experimental rock" on the site they are featured on. I also got
some soundtrack work, recently, on, of all things, a cable show about
high school life. Jimmy may find his old stuff will catch on big,
but he has to get it out there. Just hope it doesn't take him as
long as it has me for it to start getting noticed. Like I said, no
one cares about my songwriting, but he has a reputation to uphold.
Give him time. When he decides it's ready, and is worth the
financial risk (he may well be saving up for it--I know I'm cutting
back severely on my lifestyle to catch up on bills, so I can relate),
he will put out his album. He can't tour like Robert is to make up
for a lack of album sales, though. A little bit tougher.

But then, he's a bright boy. I don't think he will disappoint us.

:)
