Beggar's Banquet (great headline, Nech)

OK, Nech, points well taken. He is on tour. That
explains a lot of the noise about him. That's
reasonable.
And you are absolutely right, I scream about my
boredom, but haven't done anything to start an
interesting thread, just blow up.
Let me apologize for one thing I said. The remark
about Robert needed to have his face ironed was crude
and unpleasant, more like something he would say. It
is never, ever appropriate to say something about
another person's appearance. I am very sorry.
As for the crack about singers, Miss Fabulosa made
some wonderful points. It was really my hope to
inspire such conversation. I expect Mr. Druck will
speak out, too. After all, there are entire websites
devoted to jokes about dumb drummers are (sorry I
don't know where they are). I wouldn't presume to say
anything like that. I was just venting (or as someone
I used to know said, ventilating - I must remember to
use that in my novel) and trying to get the list
stimulated.
I have been extremely quiet about Project 2 because I
was so angry at the attempted, unwanted, stupid
interference in FTLOFBO last year that I just thought
I'd keep things among my team and announce it when it
was ready. But I blocked her email address and that
of two of her friends who insisted on calling me "this
Carol Page person," which also irked the hell out of
me, so what do I have to worry about?
So here's some of what we have: a rehearsal with
Jimmy Page and the members of Aerosmith (it's really
good) - Frank Smith has provided that) - a friend of
ours in England - I'm sorry, I've forgotten his name
now, but he will get mentioned when the final credits
are put on this list - bought one of the original
Jimmy Page model Gibson guitars. It came with a CD of
Jimmy demonstrating how to play to a bunch of Gibson
employees in the basement of his home. Our Brit
friend is giving us a copy for the Project.
We have a lot of offers for JPJ material. I was
absolutely horrified that there was no JPJ material on
the last project. I did not have much control over
how the project was put together and am keeping much
more control this time. I do not have the JPJ Irving
Plaza gig you mentioned, Nech, and would love to have
it. So let this post be an opportunity for folks to
offer material yet again.
One FBO member, Freda Hyatt, is gracing us with some
really wonderful footage, all British television. She
send me a list (11 pages, I think) for me to go
through and choose from. Can you imagine? Some of it
is stuff already on FTLOFBO, or already offered, but
plenty isn't.
And, of course, the catalyst for Project 2, was when
our friend in Canada, (I am consumed with guilt for
not being able to remember his name and Yahoo won't
let me search my email) kindly sent me his entire
collection of Page/Plant 95/96 videotapes and
cassettes, plus a bunch of Zep cassettes.
I am reducing the amount of Plant stuff considerably,
but there will be Page/Plant, Jones, and lots and lots
of Page.
For now, I'll keep quiet about who's doing the
transferring.
The writers for this project are Anna Circo (who is a
fan of Robert Plant, but is still able to remain sane
when writing about him), Steve Thomson, who will write
about the rhythm team of JPJ and Bonzo, and, I hope,
TangerineMan, who has not yet committed, but I want to
write about Jimmy Page. I don't know what the hang-up
is, Michael, but perhaps when I get a few drinks in
you when you're in Boston, I can get a commitment from
you.
Tim Druck is again doing the artwork. I sent him
every Zep book and magazine I have and he has been
scanning every night for weeks and because I had so
much expects to give you lovely people a separate tree
of just photos.
I have complete faith in Tim's ability, not just
because he did such a marvelous job on FTLOFBO, but
we're working together on something else and I can
tell you, he's terrific.
Tim is also writing for the booklet, generally about
the band. I'm not writing anything. I'm a
professinal writer and it would be a busman's holiday
for me. Frankly, except for this project, all I feel
like doing these is eating peaches and cream ice cream
and listening to early, early Zep on my headphones. I
start seeds in my windowboxes when I'm done with the
ice cream.
Personally, I think the "caterwauling" as somebody
called it that Robert did on the early shows (like the
Boston Tea Party, for example) was absolutely
wonderful. There was so much passion in those shows.
They were out to prove themselves and they did. I
forget what show it was but the Plantations were
wonderful. He made a reference to Che Guervera and
also sang Sock it To Me, Sock it To Me. For you
young-uns, many of us who were around back then
protesting the Vietnam war and doing other fine
liberal things like burning our bras, had Che Guevera
posters on our walls or knew somebody who did. I sure
did.
And the Sock it to Me thing is from the huge hit TV
show, Laugh-in. I knew Robert was liberal, peace,
hippie at that time, so I could understand the Che
Guervera reference (he was a Latin American
revolutionary) but Laugh-in? Those early Zep shows
are the best.
I love your list of topics, Nech. I'd especially like
to know if there's any Jimmy Page artwork around. I
join you in the task of energizing this list and
moving it away from where it has been stuck.

Oh! One more thing! We need a name for Project 2!
Come on folks. Help me. Sharp. Snappy. Maybe
funny?

You will need to be strong, for you will be called cowards and traitors. But
it is an act of courage to choose sanity and peace when others are choosing
hate and war.
