obligatory CD/DVD post

saddest thing i've seen in years: the cluster of guys down at Best Buy (no -- i
was
buying speaker wire, but we'll get to that) staring forlornly at the empty
shelf with
modest sales tag beneath proclaiming 'Led Zeppelin DVD'. the poor things
seemed to think that if they stood there long enough, pretending vague interest
in
the Jethro Tull disc on the shelf above, that fresh stock would magically
materialize.

yes, i behaved, and didn't gloat. ^_~

had read about the sell-outs, but hadn't witnessed it myself. such a large
retailer
too! abso-friggin-lutely incredible.

the speaker wire was for the 1960s Wharfedale W70 speakers that arrived today.
paired 'em up with a vintage receiver and tossed in HTWWW. my god, the sound.
the SOUND! 's like Bonzo's right there tearing up my living room, and Robert's
breathing down my neck.

CD packaging: press forcefully on one of the little 'teeth' holding the disc,
and at
the same time gingerly pry. frickin' pain in the rear, but i do understand why
it
was done. with the tri-fold package, would have been disasterous for discs to
pop
loose during shipping. artwork? bah -- who cares? you won't see it again for
months, because the discs'll be on constant rotation in your changer.

DVD production: EXTREMELY high quality. giddy with pleasure. it's the little
things; menus that are interesting (what body part would i NOT give for the
entire
Heartbreaker from RAH!), the footage shown with the credits, the logical layout
and overall thoughtful design. 's got fucking *personality*, and that's not
even the
music!

as for the music... the opening drum notes to 'We're Gonna Groove' split my
face
open with a grin that hasn't left yet. ah, euphoria, how i shall miss thee
when you
finally wear off... around Christmas.

and on a more practical note, i owe some people some replies. i'm getting to
that...

feeling the love,
