Dont know if this will make it through, but felt that this being as close to a
national
Led Zeppelin Day, I figured I would chime in with my two cents on the DVD.
In a word "Awesome!" I really like the footage from sydney 72 with Immigrant
song.
Even though the visuals dont always sync with the audio portion, the frenetic
cutting
and rapid camera shots and movements really bring out the excitement of the
performance.
Especially like the shot from the Rolls as they drive onto the field.
However, the cover is crap. And the argument that they were trying to save
money to make
it more accesible does not hold water. (Would have loved to see a shot from RAH
on the cover,
a fold out of Earls Court on the inside and a shot from Knebworth on the back
for instance).
Just as cheap. These guys are either out of touch or just dont care. That
spacesuit cover
was ridiculous, showing no respect for the music it was labeling. And when did
crop circles
ever have anything to do with Led Zeppelin?
A word about Earls court. What they seem to lack from that show is a good
head-on long shot.
I want to see the full stage with that Led Zeppelin sign in lights. (I have it
on my bootlegs
so I know it is there). Without the long shots, the acoustic section feels like
it was taped
at a soundstage for one of those cheesy seventies variety shows. I think the
bootleg footage
that is used for the knebworth portion works so well because it really serves
to put the
viewer in the audience.
Lastly, seeing that alot of the Earls Court footage consisted of closeups, why
couldnt they do
anything with the 77 footage? It would not have been hard to doctor the audio
if need be, and
there is plenty of bootleg footage from that year that could have been used.
Not just Seattle
or I believe they used Louisiana with LTTE Synced to it. THey could have given
us Oakland,
and New York 77.
Bottom line: I was really hoping that this set would sort of bring a sense of
closure to my
whole zep experience but without decent footage from 77 as well as footage of
the bowing segment
complete with dry ice and laser lights from 75 or 77, it is not definitive.
