Well I've spent the weekend going over the CD/DVD
issues and here's a few things I've thought of:
1) I think the packaging and artwork of How The West
was one was pathetic. It just shows how the people who
who were involved in the process don't care about the
fans.
We hear how the recording industry are complaining
about lost revenues to things like downloading. One
thing that could be done is to put the CD's in a
package that people would like to own. Is their any
reason why a "best of 72" live album could not have
any photos of the band on stage from 1972?
It also would have been nice if there were some form
of liner notes that would explain to the fans why
these shows were chosen to be used for Led Zeppelin's
first live album.
The music and the sound is great, but don't be
surprised if audience recordings of these shows pop up
with much better artwork and packaging.
2. The DVD package was better than I expected. It was
nice to get two sets of liner notes getting a
decription of the contents of each DVD.
The material of the DVD was comprehensive and I'm not
one of those whiners complaining about a lack of 77
material. Something does feel wierd about watching the
Knebworth as I get the immpression the tapes were
"doctored/remixed" or something to make them sound
better on stage than the bootlegs made them sound.
3. It looks like a TSRTS remaster version could be
worked on. The DVD was just basically a transfer of
the VHS copy with a theatrical trailer thrown in. The
tracks on the DVD were definitely a pleasur to watch.
Take Care
