Transferring tape to Digital format

I work with this lady who is married to a "chap" from London. We've worked
together for about 5 years and she knows my obsession with concert
recordings. Last week she springs this on me... Her husband has a 1st gen
tape, from a cousin who lives in London, of a Faces (with Rod Stewart) show
from 1971. I haven't received the info on the show yet but she told me his
cousin is quit proud of ALL the concerts that he has recorded. Not that
I'm a big Faces fan, but I told her I could convert her husband tape to cdr
for him. Her husband also wants a disc made to send to his cousin. I said
no problem cause I'm dying to know what other concerts he recorded. London,
early 70's, holy sh*t, he could have some great shows. I do know he
recorded with a cassette recorder with a condense mic, but she says the
Faces show sound pretty good and for the casual listener to say that, it
must be pretty good.
Anyhow, he is my problem. I want to do the conversion correctly and my
computer has an "on board" sound card. I don't really have the funds to go
buy a heavy duty sound card but recommendations would be appreciated.
Don't have a DAT recorder either and it is my understanding that the best
way to convert old cassette tapes to digital is thru a DAT because they
have excellent analog to digital converters. But what I do have is a
digital Sony video camera. So my question is......would recording this
cassette to the video camera and then transferring it to the computer for
processing be an "acceptable" means of transferring?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Rob
