I guess you've been looking at the outtakes more than you have the
original film?  In the outtakes, it is Maureen (brunette).  In the
actual film, there is a blonde, instead.  It is that gal that Wendy
is asking about.  Hey, I don't know who she was, either... :)

I did read that she was supposed to be some ideal or other, but her
fading away when Robert was trying to reach for her supposedly
symbolized how that ideal was never obtainable or something like
that.
