Slash did work on Dangerous; Edward Van Halen did some tracks on Thriller.
I agree, GNR was an awesome band. What Izzy and Slash did together with
guitar work in the short time that they were together (Izzy left the band in
'91 taking all its creativity - they only now released their first original
material since he left). As far as the time period, there was nothing
better. I don't want to hear Metallica, I don't want to hear Aerosmith, I
don't want to hear Van Halen. Hands down, from '87 when they hit the scene
until '91 when Izzy left, Guns N Roses WAS rock music. Axl's fiance dumped
him and he went bonkers. Axl is not Guns N Rose, Axl was never Guns N Roses.
As a band, even with him as their front man, they were the best while they
existed.
They took the torch that had been dropped the day Bonzo died and carried it
to the next generation. Loud shows, loud albums, crazy antics, awesome
guitar playing, heavy bass lines, blonde bombshell singer. They took the
formula that Zeppelin, The Who, etc. created in the late '60s and blasted it
to the youth of their time. They will always draw comparisons to their
"fathers," but will never touch what they did for music. If not for GNR,
some of the people on this list would probably have never heard of
Zeppelin. For that, I thank them. For Appetite for Destruction, Live Like a
Suicide, Lies, and Use Your Illusion, I thank them.
