No, no, no ;-)--you're thinking of XYZ, which meant eX-Yes and Zeppelin. It
was around '81 or '82 that the rumor spread. I remember my friends and I
figuring it was about as credible as any of the Bonzo replacement rumors
that went around for a a year or so after JHB died. Turns out there really
was an attempt to put together a band featuring Plant and Page along with
Chris Squire and Alan White of Yes. The tapes did find their way onto the
trading circuit, and they're not all that impressive. Most, if not all, of
those early ideas wound up recycled into Page solo tracks and/or latter-day
Yes tunes--as recently as a year or two ago.
The 80s are a big blur for me, too, in general--but I have a mind for
trivia...
