Re: Favorite EC show?

Earl's Court..............Which night Batman?
Listening to some of the old school English fans and looking at boot lists,
one would think that Led Zeppelin only played one EC show on 5-24-75 and
that it was the best gig the band ever played. That is really far from the
truth. Most of the other nights are actually better than the overrated 24th.

After I listen to the boots of the shows I come away thinking that the band
was trying for a different mood than the American shows. This mood
ultimately makes them kind of boring, and as Rey would say "sluggish". It
was as though Zeppelin were trying to whisper to the wee English folks and
ended up talking too much. Too many Plantations and not enough playing. I
also feel as though these were the "scary" Zeppelin shows with more emphasis
on mystery than balls. (I am an American fan and like my Zeppelin with big
balls.) I guess one had to be there for the visuals.

I absolutely do not like the soundboard of the 24th! I even recently got a
hold of that new soundboard source and still didn't change my mind. To me
the night of the 24th is boring and the dry board tape doesn't help. Yeah
Woodstock was great, along with Jimmy's Stairway solo, but that was about
it. I used to put No Quarter on to help me go to sleep at night...seriously!
Zeppelin should not do that to a person!!!!!!!!!!! In fact I think that the
only Court night that is worse than the 24th is the last night which just
sounds uninspired.

The 3rd night at EC 5-23-75 is my favorite. It is a great sounding audience
recording and the band keep my interest throughout the show. Bonham is
really good throughout the show. Jimmy's STH solo is just as hot and Robert
doesn't sound like he got punched in the stomach during the finale like he
did on the 24th.
