I am sure this will be one of many many reviews/comments on Plant's
Storytellers show, but I just had some things I wanted to say
1. Kudos to VH1 and VH1 classic for the Robert Plant weekend, and the
broadcast of an extended storytellers w/interview show. You had to stay up
late to catch this, more on that later.
2. Was there any solo artist who floundered more in the 80's than Plant?
Looking at his videos is like getting a Fashion 101 on 80's styles. It was
funny and sad at the same time seeing him prancing around.
3. Does anyone appreciate WiC more after hearing all those awful (IM0)
songs, terribly pop and synthesized music, from Plant's 80's solo output?
4. To storytellers, first of all, why such a late timeslot. 10 pm central,
11 EST. wow.. it's not like vh1 had new shows showing, heck they showed the
jacksons movie from 11-4 pm, they could at least given Robert a better time
slot. And how dumb was it of them to be broadcasting the full album stream
on VH1 classic, AT THE SAME TIME AS THE STORYTELLERS SHOW! I was flipping
back and forth, but that could have been handled better.
5. As for the show, I like Robert's band a lot, I haven't heard a lot of the
live shows nor did I care to at first. The Zeppelin tunes I heard, WLL, Four
Sticks, were done admirably. Robert's voice is good to my ears, and his new
album has been getting really good reviews.
I think Rob could have easily turned into a Rod Stewart or Michael Bolton
type, but these cover songs and his astute education/knowledge of music has
kept him on the artsy side. here's hoping he follows up dreamland with some
original material.
