Hey all. Here's something cool to pass along. There's a program out there
called "CDRid" or CD-R ID. What it does is it checks the CD-Rs (if you have a
writer capable of reading the manufacturer) and checks to see if it is cheaply
made. I have found that it is pretty reliable in stating what CDs are just
plain
cheap, or if TDK or someone like them used a manufacturer outside to make the
CDs using a more affordable but vastly inferior ink (the blue ink) which
affects
the lifespan of the CD. Phew. I am not a techie, so I don't know exactly how it
works, but I tested a few makes of CDs and here's what I found.
Good:
TDK
Fuji
Digital Research
PNY
Bad:
Imation
Teon
Also too, check the country of origin on these CDs. If they're Japanese
made, usually good. Especially with the Fujis. TDK, avoid Canadian made CD-Rs.
Those have a tendency to use Type 2 ink, which is cheap and poor quality.
Thought I would pass this along for those who do not know.
Absolute-Zep!!
