Huge Zepp Beach Party

+++Zepfest Celebration Daze 2002+++

August 23rd and 24th, 2002
Chicago, IL

As everyone has heard, there will be a huge Zeppelin party in Chicago in
August. Maybe the last USA Zepp event ever? A tribute to what should be one
of the greatest double billing in years, we will get to see Plant and the Who
on the same night. Pinch me I must be dreaming! The 2-day weekend event
will be a celebration of Robert Plants' Birthday and a tribute to John
Entwistle. Starting on Friday, the festival will consist of 3 organized
events: a Beach Party, Zeppelin Convention and HUGE rock show on Saturday
night!! Here's a detailed listing of what will be happening.

Friday 8-23, 1pm - 5pm: THE BEACH PARTY!!!!!!!!

We will be gathering on the shores of Lake Michigan. If you have never been
to the beach in downtown Chicago, I can tell you it is not something to miss!
Even just to see Michelle and Jezebel in the latest Chicago fashion
swimwear!! The sand goes on forever, the waves are huge and the water not
even salty! Volleyball and other activities are everywhere. The Zeppers
will set up a flag so we can find each other. To get there, just go to Lake
Shore Drive in downtown Chicago. The Beach is about a mile north of Soldier
Field, Shed Aquarium and the Field Museum. Its near the intersection of
Jackson and Lake Shore Drive. Get there early to have time for parking.
Better yet....take a cab or the "L" from outside the downtown limits so you
don't go crazy!

Feel free to bring some food and drinks. We will provide some too. Don't
miss the Frisbee contest or Unledded songs performed live on the Ukulele by
our surprise guest. Surfs Up!!

Saturday 8-24, 1pm - 6pm: THE CONVENTION

Morgans Pub
Mokena, IL 60448
(just outside Tinley Park)

This should be a great time as we have scheduled it close to the venue as a
pre-show extravaganza! The event will be held at Morgans Pub which features
a large variety of frothy beverages and tasty pub food. This place is NOT a
dive. We decided early in the planning stages not to focus on Zepp
convention vendors used in the past. The program had gotten old in my
opinion. This is not to be about coffee cups and bumper stickers! The
vendors were selected and invited based on their knowledge, contribution to
the hobby of Zepp collecting. We also know we needed fresh blood. Here's a
run down of the vendors:

1.) Planet Zeppelin - Featuring an artifact exhibit and web resource
information.
2.) Bootledz.com - An expansive resource for Zeppelin tape and cd collecting
(possible upcoming book)
3.) Hidden Grok - Traps for troubadours, cd's, posters, rock art.
4.) Mark Corneilson - Great photographer of Page and Plant, superior photos.
5.) Frank Melfi - Overall Zepp historian and photographer of Zepp from
1973-2002!

This should be a wonderful opportunity to meet old friends and make new
friends as well. After 6pm, we will make our way over to the venue to enjoy
a knock-down double header of a show!!

Saturday 8-24, 8pm til 11:30pm: THE CONCERT!!

Featuring: The WHO
Special Guest: Robert Plant & Strange Sensation
Venue: Tinley Park Outdoor Amphitheater

The thing I have always loved most about Chicago growing up is that you can
always go without a ticket. I have never seen a city so full of people
carrying "Tickets For Sale" signs. It's great to know you can barter for
tickets without the risk of cops chasing off the brokers and folks just
getting rid of extra tickets.

I am very impressed with Robert Plants' newest Sensation. I saw them in New
York and I can tell you this will not be a disappointment! Roberts' voice is
in peak form. As for the Who, just go on to www.petetownsend.com and listen
to the "My Generation" mpeg and tell me that Pino is not filling in well for
the loss of John Entwistle. And Zak Starkey on percussion is the best fit
for the Who since the loss of Moony. This may be your last chance to see the
Who. They are in peak form now so don't miss the chance.
