Hi FBO,
This is my first post to this list (I think), and it's not even about Zep!
Sorry about that.
I also have had mixed feelings about the WHO continuing their tour, but I do
understand part
of the reasons why--it IS about money, but not just money for Pete and Roger.
If they cancelled
the tour, John Entwistle's family/estate would most likely have to pay out
money for his share
plus any additional costs (salaries, venue fees, etc.). At least if they
continue the tour, his
estate will receive the cut he would have earned. His family will end up with
some $$ instead
of a huge loss.
Pino Palladino was waiting in the wings so to speak, since John's heart
condition was not a
secret within the WHO. It is also quite possible that John was not insured for
this tour--they
ALL had to pass pre-tour physicals--maybe John didn't pass? I don't know.
I know that this seems heartless, but this business just isn't the same as it
was when Zep was
still touring. There are so many factors to consider, I can't imagine trying
to make this kind
of decision.
Of course the WHO loved John--Roger Daltrey's statement (it's all over the net,
but I can post
it or email it to anyone who would like to read it) about their loss is
heartfelt and touching.
This is also a man who bitched for years that the Who weren't touring--it was
what he wanted to
do, always. His family supports the decision to continue, and I imagine that
John would support
the decision, too.
This was probably one of the hardest decisions the WHO organization ever had to
make.
I just hope John and Moonie ( and Bonzo) are having a brandy and laughing their
asses off.
Just my opinion. Flame away if you must.
