I do understand your point and it is a good arguement. BUT as far as I am
concerned, it is more of a thing out of respect for the band itself. They
only make a small portion of money from each CD that sells. The Record
company makes the majority of it. I don;t care about the record company as
much as the poeple who are prioviding us with this music that we are
choosing to invest in.
Whern we buy a bootleg, we are buying THAT BAND'S MUSIC yet however the
band IS NOT GETTING ANY MONEY FOR THAT PERFORMANCE that you are buying.
But it is their music, their performance. Yes they made money from that
gig FROM THE PEOPLE WHO PAID TO SEE THE SHOW. If you are paying money
shouldn;t the band see some of that. Of course they should. But it is a
bootleg so they won't. And your need and desire to own this live material
obviously outweighs the need to pay the band.
I do not count trading or even downloading live mp3's or
whatever....you're doing this for free basicaklly. No one is amking money
except the poeple who you bought the hard drive, blankl CD, or blank tape
for.
So if you are not able to get the band money for the bootlegs you buy I
think you are morally obligated to buy their entire studio collection, or
at LEAST either A) intend to or B) buy every album in which the songs that
are on the bootleg originally came on, buit even that is stretching it.
Soem of these guys may be millionaires, but they are just trying to make a
living like the rest of uis. Stealing rheir work is not right, and that is
what it is.
