I remember reading an article about JPJ around the
time of his Zooma tour, and he was asked about the BBC
release. Apparently the three Zep guys do meet for
business every now and then, and I guess at one of
these, when the issue of releasing the BBC sessions
was becoming a reality, JPJ got to see the box where
their live stuff was kept. I can't remember exactly
the details, but what struck me was that the tapes or
whatever were kept in a cardboard box, and there
wasn't much there.

That isn't to say there aren't other live tapes
somewhere, maybe in Jimmy's personal collection.

The thing about keeping tapes in that condition
though, for decades now, is that wouldn't there be
some sort of tape rot issue? After a long time, the
music will bleed across the tape.

I read an article on the net by Wendy Carlos
describing the process of saving a soundtrack s/he had
made for the movie Tron. The master tape had kind of
glued together, and part of the restoration process
involved baking (?) it at high temperature. Floyd's
live Wall album was also delayed due to problems
restoring the master tape. Moral of the story?
Rescue those concerts Jimmy!
