Alternate sources and mixing

Hi All,
 Recently there were a couple of post's dealing with alternate 
sources and
the mixing of them together. My questions are, what programs are 
available
to mix the two so one is in the front channels and the other in the 
rear
channels, if any? And is it possible with a PC?
 I have no problems with the mixing of compatible sources into 
stereo, but
that's not what I want to accomplish. I also realize, that if you 
don't have
the equipment, you will just hear it in stereo anyway. Providing that 
both
sources are stereo of course.
 Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
