Greetings fellow LedHeads- it's 1:30 Monday morning, time for my
speal and
comments over the topics of discussion for the past weke. Feel free to
discuss amongst yourselves.....
1. To the 17 year old Zep fan- maybe your generation to you is
musically
retarted, but really, it is wrong to say that. While I respect for
your
opinion, I think it is wrong of you to say that.
People get into music by what they are exposed to on a regular
basis....it
is a common fact. Granted, yes you know what types of music that you
like
and what you don't like, but with -most- people, music grows on them
the
more times that they hear it.
How did I get into Led Zeppelin? I had heard several Led Zeppelin
songs
because my parents liked rock and roll music, usually on the radio. I
wanted to get the song "Black Dog" on tape.... being nine years old,
I had
no money to get the album, and then I discovered the classic Zepset 5
nights a week on our local classic rock station, WBLM out of Portland,
Maine. By repeatedly listening to that, there were so many songs that
I
had never heard that I grew to love.
As a teenager, especially in your younger teens, children are forced
by
peer pressure to fit in with what they're friends are doing. Whether
it be
drugs, music, clothing, kids at that age look down on anything that is
different then themselves. Immature yes. But it happens, and the
reason it
happens is because, well, to be like everyone else you look down on
everyone who is different, because that's what everyone else does.
I learned at a young age that I should not tell what music I did like,
because I would get ridiculed, and I continued to get ridiculed and
beat
because I did not listen to what was "cool." Many kids did.
You'll find that as people get older, they discover other music out
there
from their peers, from the radio, etc that they end up really liking,
and
realize that it is more of their cup of tea then the top 40 music that
they always listened to.
At the same time, my stepmother, who is in her mid 40's, loves the
blues,
but is not a big fan of Zeppelin-style blues or a lot of rock music in
general. However, she loves the modern top 40 pop music.
I bet there are a lot of others that are your age that you may know,
or
may not know, who are also into classic rock- the three top ones at
that
age from my observations are #1- the Dead #2- Floyd and #3- Zeppelin
in
that order. However, there are still people around that would react
in a
negative way about older music like that, and as long as that
happens, the
majority of children/teenagers will like what they are supposed to,
without even bothering to give it a listen.
And most kids have a rebellious attitude....liking music that your
parents
listen to is just plain uncool.
2. If the "nothing to do with anything aat all to do with this" quote
seemed like something from Shaken 'n' Stirred, IT WAS!!!! That came
from
"Too Loud."
3. TangerineMan commented that all radio stations play the same music-
except WKIT- long live streaming audio. Just so you know (maybe you
realize this and I misunderstood you) WKIT is a real radio station
that
broadcasts throughout Eastern and Central Maine with 50,000 watts at
the
frequency of 100.3, that just so happens to be one of the few
commmercial
FM staitons that broadcasts online due to the AFTRA organization of
voice
talents who want extra money for their commercials featuring their
voice
when they are played online. The simple solution to that is- blocking
out
the commercials on the online stream. Because of an ingenious idea
(however simple it may be) from our engineer- we are the only station
who
broadcast the Dr. Demento show online.... one show with a very loyal
following but a diminishing amount of radio stations that play it.
Hell,
just listening today while driving arund there were requests from
Pheonix,
North Carolina, California and one from England. Honestly, and I am
not
trying to overly plug or advertise for my workplace, but the problem
with
radio today is that it is so corperate and un-local- the radio dial
would
be much more friendly if the corperate companies would realize that,
but
until they do they are contributing to the death of broadcast radio
as we
know it. A radio station is very expensive to run, and we are very
fortunate for two reasons- #1- we break even pretty much on income and
spending and #2- Our owner is Stephen King. Many locally owned radio
stations nowadays are doing nothing but losing money, that is why the
radio dial has become so corperate.
4. Also to TangerineMan- you knew of SEAPAC? I beleive it was only
SEAPAC
for a year or two, and by the time Aerosmith came around, Archie St.
Hilaire was running the show and calling it "The Ballpark" once
again. I
know it was the Ballpark when I saw the Furthur Festival there in
1996.
How far away are you from there? I ask because I grew up about a mile
and
a half from that place as the crow flies (the black crow?). Last that
I
heard they were considering bringing back concerts to the
place...which
would be super cool.....
5. And one more note responding to the same post- I must have never
finished my sentence- I knew Aerosmith did several covers, I meant I
never
knew they did a cover of "Think About It...." but I stuck it on the
air
and man.... I thought it kicked ass!
6. What the hell is Robert Plant doing opening for STING? That should
be
at least equal billing, I understand Sting has his follwing, but COME
ON
NOW
7. This is a couple days late!!!!!! Why? Because I typed everything
else
up Monday morning and then today I remembered I never sent it out!!!
8. Zep songs I played this weekend: Rock and Roll, For Your Life (into
"Interstate Love Song" by STP....., Sick Again (with a Moby Dick intro
because I accidentally played Moby Dick), Moby Dick (by request),
STH by
request, Hot Dog, the Girl I love, and The Rover.
9. Tata for now
