Hi All:
I figured I would post this info as this doesn't seem to be as clear
to
many people in The Zeppelin world of trading.
There seems to be a misconception of grading and quality of Blank Cdr
media.
I myself have only come to this knowledge via another fan board
(RUSH DRE
newsfroup at delphi.com), so I would like to impart this info to all
of you
fine folks.
This link provides info on what brands of media are considered Grade
A or
Grade C. Although the site is a little old, it has a basis of info
that I
couldn't even begin to type.
http://24.93.200.44:5150/advisor/cd_quality.htm
some quick notes..
Grading has to do with prospected longevity and dye stragety and
who/where
the disc was made.
not with facing or name brand.
The biggest misconception is that what a disc looks like determines
quality,
where in truth its is determined by the Manufactory and the "dye
stragety"
(Long for Grade A / Short Grade C).
A Sony/Maxell etc that is manufactored in Taiwan is no different
then a
Comp USA generic made in the same plant with the same dye by the same
company.
as of JUNE 21, 2001 the only GRADE A media are the following
1. Taiyo Yuden
2. Mitusi
3. Kodak Gold/Ultima
4. TDK CERTS (made in Japan)
They are made in Japan.
All other MAXELL, SONY, IMATION, TDK CERTS (new stock) etc are made
in
Taiwan are GRADE C.
There is a fanstastic CDR identifier program out there called
"CDR Media Code IDENTIFIER V1.63" that is free on the web, just do a
search
for it.
Also I am told Fuerrio software contains a similar program with in
it.
Thats all I have to say about this, I hope some of you get it. it
is not
personal to anyone and I say these thing with a hope of clairty for
all
traders. It takes a little time to get it all clearly but in the end
it
solves tons of misunderstanding and flase assumptions.
Sorry for the type-o's, Todd
