I don't know how many of you are Howard Stern listeners but he's
been
talking alot lately about Jumping The Shark which means "the point
were you
know that band, tv show, person etc.... sold out, turned to shit, or
dive-bombed". Everyone talking about U2 and Aerosmith on this list
made me
think of Howard's discussions on this topic. So why not make it a
thread
now. Here's 5 bands i think "Jumped The Shark" and why.
1. Metallica - The Black album is ok but they've taken a big poo as
far as
anything since, plus the whole napster thing didn't help either.
2. Judas Preist - They jumped the sharl when Rob Halford left the
band and
they hired some vocalist who was in a Judas Priest tribute band at
the time.
3. Ozzy - He jumped the shark after his "No More Tours" tour in 91/92
4. Journey - No Steve Perry and Steve Smith - No Journey. Neal Schon
and
Jonathan Cain not wanting to wait for Steve Perry to heal was pretty
much
their ticket over the shark.... I met Neal once and he was a
complete A #1
ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!!! On the other hand Steve Smith was the nicest guy
and the
sole reason I started playing the drums 18 years ago. Tnanks Steve.
5. Motley Crue - What a pile of shit without Tommy Lee. The
Generation
Swine album sucked(even though Lee played on it). Tommy bailed to
form
Methods Of Mayhem(kicks ass...) so who do they get to replace him?
Noneother than Randy Castillo. Vince is bloated and drunk again so
they
jumped the shark when they reunited w/ Vince and made some sort of
comeback.
I honestly don't think many people care anymore.
Now for my defense of Aerosmith and U2.
Aerosmith -- I saw Aerosmith on their last tour and it was one of my
top 5
shows i've ever seen. i've seen Sir Paul McCartney, Page/Plant (both
tours)
Plant solo (2x) plus tons of other bands. Aerosmith are still
awesome due
to the fact that they are a fantastic live band. They are tight,
they are
extraordinary showmen, and they still sound f*cking great. I
honestly feel
that no other band can touch Aerosmith live. They are the definition
of
ROCK.
U2 -- U2 are another band that sound great live, put on a great
show. They
still hold up due to constantly evolving as a band. They take musical
chances when they evolve and update their sound. Bono and the Edge
are
monumental songwriters. Their song "One" gives me goosebumps
everytime I
hear it. The overall mood of that song is so emotionally heavy.
Those of
you who dig U2 know what I mean.
Well, I hope those of you who read this super-long post will
understand
where I'm coming from. Those of you who don't have no clue where I'm
coming
from.......I hope this turns into a good thread and not a flame-ridden
thread.
