Been listening to Presence today... "Achilles Last Stand" at volume
level
31 with headphones on is a deafening rush.
I believe the reason that the band never played anything off Presence
save
ALS and NBFBM is that they were just too personal and emotional to
play for
a crowd of wonky teenage metalheads. The lyrics were too confessional.
"Hots On for Nowhere" sounds happy, right? The lyrics are pretty
bleak,
though. Same with "For Your Life," which is one of the sludgiest
songs they
ever did. At the same time, the comic relief on the album was *too*
light-hearted for Zeppelin to play it onstage at that time. And they
still
liked playing SIBLY, so there goes "Tea for One."
Thoughts?
