Daze on the Road

And another Anniversary Daze slips into the annals of Rock history.
AD
VI was, as always, a very enjoyable weekend. Frantic pace from Friday
morning till Saturday evening but loved every minute. Exhausted at
the
end of it but a few days Down By The Seaside have recharged the
batteries nicely.

I don't intend to attempt a full review of the weekend's proceedings
but
here are a few brief notes. The fourth album video compilation
featured
tracks from Knebworth, Earls Court and Seattle 1977. This was the
first
ever public showing of the Seattle footage - fascinating to see,
although the sound and picture quality were far from good. The
Seattle
tracks featured were Battle Of Evermore and Going To California, with
a
couple more tracks shown at other times during the day. Other video
highlights included a very nice version of Royal Albert Hall 1970 and
a
track from Robert and the Strange Sensations in Scandinavia.

The charity auction was another success with 300 pounds being raised
for
the ABC Trust. The quiz was a bit chaotic but at least it took place
this time! The stalls were probably the best they've ever been.

General feelings - six events in the same venue in two and a half
years
has been a bit too much. There's always something different at every
event but there's also more than a hint of repetition now. Up to AD
IV
in May 2000 the event was constantly growing. AD V last October was
severely hit by weather and travel problems. The latest event made a
recovery when compared to AD V but in the wider scheme of things it's
clear that it's been taken as far as it can go in that setting.

It was intended that AD VI would be the only event in 2001 and that we
would then take stock and consider what to do in the future. However,
sometimes an opportunity arises that is just too good to let go. AD
supremo Andy Adams was chatting recently to some acquaintances who
have
been involved with running a few Rush conventions. They told Andy
that
they used a superb venue in Crewe called The Limelight Club. This
place, they said, has three floors, video screens, numerous bars and
beer gardens and is an excellent gigging venue as well. This year's
Rush convention is in September and they also have Free and Thin Lizzy
conventions taking place there over the next few months.

Andy gave the manager a call to discuss the possibility of holding an
AD
event there in the future. The Club were interested in hosting the
event and would certainly be able to find a slot in their calendar
some
time next year. There was, however, one date in 2001 that was
currently
available - Saturday August 4th!

Our plans for a six month break in the Caribbean have, therefore, been
shelved and it is with great excitement and anticipation that I am
called upon to announce:

Crewe is not a major city but it is easily accessible from a wide area
of the UK, being within comfortable reach of Manchester, Liverpool,
Birmingham, Yorkshire, Wales and, of course, Worcestershire. It's
already clear that taking Anniversary Daze on the road to new
locations
is the way forward - we've hardly started with the publicity and
already
advance ticket sales are much faster than they have been for any of
the
London events.

Hope to see many Badgeholders there. Ever onward.
