Someone closer to the action (Sunila, est-tu là ? M. Thomas Vindrier,
pouvez-vous nous aider ?) can probably tell us more, but my guess is
that the
show's producers thought Zep's music had affinities with the
long-standing
French tradition of Surrealism and the theatre of the absurd, so they
decided to
accompany "Dazed and Confused" with that nonsensical pantomime
performance.

Other things about the broadcast are striking: the audience, for
example. I see
maybe two people in the crowd actually grooving to the music. The
rest seem
bewildered. There's even a woman with a baby directly in front of the
stage, a
few rows up; maybe the baby was into the music, but s/he spends most
of the time
hiding in the mother's arms. Maybe s/he grew up to become a fan; who
knows?

So, is this footage now available on DVD? I'd better e-mail that dude
Buckeye
was telling us about yesterday.
