Declicking Madness

Hi all,
Before I end up throwing my computer out the window, I thought I'd try
to gather some advice first! I'm in the process of editing a disc that
contains the dreaded index clicks, and up to this point it's gone really
well, although as many of you know, it's very annoying work. To be perfect,
I have one small click to remove between the last two tracks. Sounds like
a cakewalk, right? Well, this one is confounding me. For some reason, using
the wave editor in EAC, the click is not visible using the normal wave shape
display (at any zoom), but it's very obvious when viewed in spectral mode.
Great. The problem is, I select the offending area (and I do the sector
adjustment
to make sure it's exact sectors I'm cutting and not parts of sectors). After
I cut, the click actually *seems to move around*!! It's still visible in
spectral
view, just in a slightly different place (we're talking milliseconds, but
still..).
This can go on indefinitely, except I'm not that much of a masochist! Just to be
sure, I tried cutting an unreasonable large area all around the spike (4-6
sectors),
with no success. I should note that in some instances, the click after editing
is
actually *louder* than before. What the hell is going on??! I've gotten this
same
result with my trial version of Cool Edit '96 (just with this one infernal
click).
As an aside, what I've been doing (with great success in other instances) is
extracting
two tracks that contain an index tick between them (with EAC), pasting them
together
with WaveMerge, opening the merged wave in EAC again, zooming in and
eliminating the
offending portion (usually no more than 2 CD sectors), opening the edited wave
in CDWave,
and resplitting the track in the appropriate spot. Opinions? Advice? Sympathy?
