It's Been a Long Time...
Yes it has. If any of the old crew are still around (remember Digital
Graffiti?!), drop me a line. To anyone else...hi. Nice to meet you.
A Funny Thing Happened On the Way To the Forum...
I haven't been listening to a lot of bootlegs lately, but I popped in
Psychical Graffiti the other day. It took me some time to get used to the
sound quality. I remember listening to some fuzzy old '70 audience tape
that sounded like it was recorded in the men's room of the bar down the
street from the club where Zeppelin was playing, and loving every minute of
it! I need a little practice to get my "boot ears" back, I guess.
Changes.
Since I've been gone, no one trades on tapes anymore, it seems. When I was
last trading actively, the first CDR trees were just starting. It's the
standard now, I guess. Better invest in some new tech, I want to get some
more shows! But it's kind of sad. All those Maxell XL-IIs gathering dust.
The Nakamichi decks longing for mylar. No more, "Clean your heads and keep
the levels hot!" Now it's all, "4x blah bah blah, buffer yadda yadda,
digital artifact etc."
I'm Gonna Join the Band.
My now extinct band used to cover WLL in the midst of a funk song, which
always gave me a chuckle, since LZ used to cover funk songs (Crunge, Cold
Sweat) in the middle of WLL.
Shaft!
The other day my brother asked me what the weirdest song Zeppelin ever
covered was, and I had to go with "The Theme from Shaft," Manchester '72.
Check it out if you haven't heard it. The show was hard to come by, and in
poor quality once upon a time, but who knows what's come out in the last
little while. Other contenders include Robert singing Big Brother and the
Holding Company's "I Need a Man To Love" at the Fillmore West during "As
Long As I Have You," (It's right before the bass amp implodes.) and "Stand
By Me."
Precious Metals
I've heard a bit about this EC DVD, but could any kind soul clue me in as
to any major or otherwise interesting boot surfacings in the past two years
or so?
