Well, whatever the tour was, I remember being completely unimpressed with CJ
during the show. That feeling has not changed at all, even though I was
hoping it would. Believe me, I was hoping for inspiration from the bottom
end during those P/P shows. I looked around, dug deep, gave him shot after
shot. But there was nothing. Zero. Zilch. Nada. There are any number of
bassists out there who could totally go to town and really have a great time
with the material, like Robert DeLeo from STP. But CJ seems to have his
hands full pumping out predictable, safe, and uninteresting basslines.
Merely being competent isn't good enough. But like Page said: "Well, he's
Robert's son in law, so what are you gonna do?"
