the easiest way to save Real Audio or Video Files on your hard harddisk is
using
"X-FileGet" Software - with RA2WAV you can convert Realaudiofiles to
Wavefiles
both software packages can be downloaded from :
http://www.2bsys.com/products.htm
happy download :-)

Yes, there is a way to get that streaming file into your hard disk.
There are 2
ways that I usually get around doing this. One way's a lot easier and
faster than
the other but you've gotta be lucky to be able to do this.
The easier method:
First, save the .ra or .rm file into your hard disk. Open the file with
notepad,
and you will find a link listed. If it's a http:// link to a non-secure
page,
then you're in luck. Coz just enter that link in your browser or
downloading
software, and you can download the entire .ra file into your hard disk.
Most
commercial websites protect their files. If you see a pmn:// link, then
this
method will not be applicable.
The harder method:
While the music or whatever is playing, start your windows sound
recorder or any
sound recording device you may have. Set it to a high frequency and
stereo or
something so that if there's any loss in sound quality, it'll be
minimal.
Well, actually if you're ultimately converting the song to wav, the
second method
would be better because u would have to go through the same process to
convert
the .ram file to wave. But that really depends on the speed of your
modem and
internet charges. For me, I'd try for the first coz my internet access
gets
rather disrupted at times if I'm trying to listen to high quality. It's
also
expensive for me to do the second method.
I do wish that more sites put their streaming files in microsoft
streaming media
format. The buffering's so much faster and accurate. I can jump to
different
parts of the file so much more easily. Real player sucks IMHO in this
area. Note
that what I've suggested is what I found out by myself and normally do.
It may
not be the best method. I would dig other opinions on this cos if
there's a
better method out there, I'm gonna use it.

Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
