Hey all I know a bit off topic but anyone get the chance to see the clapton
guitars? What a great collection. If you go check out the midnight wine 40th
anniversary fender strat w/ gold hardware, it was beautiful. Me and my friend
stayed about an hour. If you talk with the guy who appraised them all and
wrote the catalog for Christie's he will let you play a guitar if its not too
crowded. May I suggest asking for an autograph on the pamphlet or introducing
yourself? What a religious experience. Christie's auction house playing the
Layla Sessions. Brownie was kept in a glass case and is predicted to go for
80,000 to 100,000 dollars. Looks so old and brittle I'd be afraid to play it
if it wasn't under glass. Claptons STRAPS are expected go between 800 and
1200. I bet they could sell picks 50-100 a pop. Clapton had many many more
acoustics than I'd think. A LOT of the Strats are Clapton Signatures. The
lowest priced guitars were projected to go for 1,000 to 2,000, and a program
costs FORTY dollars. Oh well. If you have the means I can't reccommend this
enough for any guitar enthusiast, walking around the room it resembles a
museum of Clapton's work. I only wish I brought my camera, I think I'm going
to go back Tuesday (the auction is Wednesday or Thursday, viewings are Sunday
1-5pm, all other days 10-5). Any guesses what celebrities will be bidding?
I know Eddie Van Halen's said the only guitarist who really got him was
Clapton. Page? Harrison? Its gonna be an interesting auction.
