CD-R media

I have a few comments for anyone contemplating buying cheap CD-R media. I
have cut heaps of CD's now. In NZ I can get Kodak gold disks in bulk for
around $3 each. The computer shops are now selling packs of 10 disks from
various manufacturers such as Samsung and KTX for $25 per pack of 10 (a
saving of 50 cents per disk). I have been using these "cheapie" disks for
backups and odd things, and the Kodaks for trades and audio work.

Several Samsung disks (almost 1 per box of 10) have inexplicably failed
halfway through burning. I believe these to be media errors. (As an aside
- - has anyone tried returning a half-burnt CD-R to the manufacturer for
replacement on the basis that it was a media error and not a buffer under-run?).

A number of the KTX disks would not start burning at 4X speed. They burnt
fine at 2X.

I have had absolutely no problems with Kodaks!
