Zeppelin vs Chicago

One of my friends at school is on the Chicago mailing list and he posted the
same question I posted yesterday about the Page vs Kath dispute. He sent me
two of their responses and I would like to post them. This is what they said.
Please resond to these with your thoghts. Answer objectivly, please:

I can't possibly be objective here, but I'll take a shot at it.
Both are remembered for definitive solos - Page on "Stairway to Heaven" and
Kath on "25 or 6 to 4."
Page didn't sing (as far as I know), while Terry sang on numerous hits and
several great album cuts.
Page got much better press, but interestingly, Terry made the cover of
Guitar Player before Page did.
Page shared the spotlight with Robert Plant in a four-piece band, and so he
got more attention. Terry was one of seven great musicians and didn't get
as much of the spotlight, considering he shared the stage with Peter
Cetera, Robert Lamm and the great horn section.
On record, Terry showed more versatility - I heard him do jazz, blues,
Hendrix-like stylings, and even slide. Admittedly, I haven't heard
everything Page ever recorded, and Page was fairly versatile as well.
Kath was very creative with effects pedals, whereas Page pretty much stuck
to Les Paul through the Marshall.
Terry wrote much of his music on his own, whereas Page collaborated quite a
bit with Plant.
I think Terry's vocal ability and songwriting give him the edge, but here's
my trump card:
Did Hendrix ever say Plant "was better than me?"

Is there any way you could share some of the Zeppelin list responses to the
question?

Here is the other responce:

Interesting Question, difficult to answer in anyway you look at it. The
only thing Terry Kath & Jimmy Page have in common is that they're both
guitar players. Kath competed against an incredible horn section, but had
the benefit of a far superior drummer in Danny Seraphine. All of which, in
my view, affects the guitar riff implementation. Kath, I believe was an all
around greater talent, and could possibly be more creative than page.
Jimmy, on the other hand, produced some very fine orginial riffs on black
dog and of course, stairway,,among others. Page flowed alittle more
smoother; Kath on the other hand, provided a constant wall of sound to keep
punching along horn dominated blasting that was a rival, instead of
accompaniment like almost all other music. I don't believe there is a
better or was a better guitar player than Terry Kath, all told. But, in
certain areas of play, there were many, are many who could rival. So,
objectively, my nod goes to Terry Kath whom I believe would prevail at the
crossroads! Thanks for asking
