Yes. I have this CD. The songs were scored and arranged for symphony
orchestra by Jaz Coleman of Killing Joke.
The track list is as follows:
1. Dawn at the Great Pyramid (3:33)
2. Kashmir (7:54)
3. Battle of Evermore (8:10)
4. Stairway to Heaven (10:40)
5. When the Levee Breaks (7:15)
6. Going to California (10:24)
7. Friends (5:40)
8. All My Love (10:35)
9. Kulu Valley (Ambient Remix) (7:42)
This was produced by Jaz Coleman and Youth, both of Killing Joke, and
performed by the London Philharmonic
Orchestra conducted by Peter Scholes.
Over all, I liked it. I especially like the fact that the percussion end
was not neglected (e.g.. Bonzo's beginning of Levee is left in the
arrangement, and the percussion section handles it well IMO). I've heard
so-called symphonic arrangements of songs by rock bands where the
arranger (or whomever is in charge) seems to have forgotten that said
band had a drummer (or that the music had any percussion in it). My only
less-than-positive impression are that the arrangement for All My Love
were a little too indulgent and I feel like I'm drowning in a sea of
sticky nostalgic sentimentality whenever I hear it. However--I can
understand somewhat his approach and what he was trying to achieve with
it. After all, it's only my impression. If orchestral recordings don't
make you retch, I'd recommend it. If you buy it, and don't like it, feel
free to flame me. :o)
