The Grateful Dead may not be the most bootlegged band of all in terms of
LPs/CDs that you can buy, but the fact that there are about 2000 recordings
of shows floating around in traders hands means that there are more Dead
shows "documented" than the number of shows most bands have ever even played.
There are also well-documented setlists for these shows that have been around
for years in a book called "DeadBase", much in the nature of the Luis Rey
books (though the presence of show reviews varies from edition to edition).
Also coming out sometime this year is Vol. 1 of the "Compendium" (or maybe it's
"Taper's Compendium"?), which is an attempt to document, review and track
down the source of all known tapes up to 1975. Vols. 2 and 3, each following
an additional decade, will follow in the future.
