Bageholders:
Just listened to the daily "Six O'clock Rock Report" from Toronto's Q107.
The DJ flew in to New York this morning and had a brief interview session
with Jimmy and Robert. Apparantly, media from all over North America were
flown in to New York City today for brief interview sessions with the boys
in a hotel room. Some comments from the DJ:
There is to be a North American premiere special of the WIC album from The
"Rock Radio Network" on Thursday, April 16 at 8pm EST featuring interview
clips and tracks from the album.
Page and Plant were very friendly and look "sharp". The DJ mentioned that
he has seen pictures of the two from recent years and they often appeared as
"old as we would expect them to be". But up close and in person today, they
looked great.
Clip from Robert explaining the significance of the title "Walking Into
Clarksdale":
"I'm English and so is Jimmy and when we were kids before we met we were
sort of part of a great movement of people in England who were captured,
obsessed, or charmed by American blues music. Strange, when you think that
there are far more Asians in England than Africans. But Clarksdale was the
center of activity in the 1930's for recording and just a general
propagation of country blues. People used to come from all over the Delta
to Clarksdale in the hope of actually getting a record deal or cutting some
sides and getting a hundred dollars or whatever it was."
Jimmy on the excitement of getting back on the road:
"Well, the live show, we can give a good report on that because we just
played eastern Europe and it was wonderful. It was really good working as a
four piece with Michael and Charlie, who really knew Robert beforehand and
got to know me a bit in the No Quarter project because there was the
orchestra; all those extra colors. Suddenly without all of that, we've just
been flying. You know, employing all the improvisation things that we
always have done. But to really good effect and you know, it's really
startling and frightening stuff, really."
The DJ, of course, mentioned the July 4 Toronto date for the upcoming tour
(no ticket info yet) and played "No Quarter" from "The Song Remains the
Same" album (something that you don't hear on the radio every day).
That's it, I guess. My apologies for any gramatical errors in my transcript
of the interview clips.
Peace,
~Chris Gust
