P/P 2/98 Euro DAT Tree Announcement!!!

As the beautiful and talented DDLisaW posted during the last couple of
days, the first four shows from the Page/Plant 1998 tour (Zagreb 2/21,
Budapest 2/23, Prague 2/25 and Katowice 2/26) will soon be available for
treeing. Since the tapes are not yet in my possession, I can't comment yet
on sound quality or performance, other than to say that the shows were
recorded on DAT with an ECM909A Sony microphone and are therefore somewhat
lacking in sonic range. Lisa told me off line that he -- err, I mean "she"
- -- would rate them somewhere in the neighborhood of "VG+" in sound quality,
and that each show will fit comfortably on a 120-m DAT. Setlists are
available on the TBL page.

Since Lisa will be busy coordinating the Hooters' portion of the tree, he
- -- whoops, I mean "she" -- will not be administering the tree on this
mailing list. Jeff will be running the analog portion, and I would expect
that he will be making an announcement at some point during the next few
days . . . . anybody wishing to participate in the DAT portion should
contact me directly.

**** TO TAKE PART IN THE DAT TREE, CONTACT ME NO LATER THAN SATURDAY, MARCH
21 AT MIDNIGHT CST.****

After that time, I can't promise that anyone else will get in.

. . . . and answer the following questions:

(required) BRANCH/LEAF:
(if branch) MAXIMUM # "CHILDREN": (note: I can't imagine that a branch
will have more than 5 leaves, but one never knows) (see note below for
definition of "children")
(if branch) SCMS STRIPPING CAPABILITY: (type yes or no; if you don't know,
then chances are that you can't remove SCMS)
(required) COUNTRY:
(required) STATE/PROVINCE:
(required) EMAIL ADDRESS:
(optional) NUMBER OF TAPES YOU ARE STILL WAITING FOR FROM JASON PETERSON
A.K.A. CHARLIE WINK A.K.A. TY MILLS:

I'm just kind of curious about the number of responses to the last
question; of course, it's immaterial to the tree -- but I'm wondering if we
have enough volume to justify a support group. I have been anxiously
checking my mail every day for that "L.A. Forum 5/17/95" soundboard that
"Charlie Wink" promised me over a year ago, but the medication has been
helping to combat my delusional conviction that somehow, someday, I will
receive the tape I'm owed.

Other notes/comments:
* Terminology clarification: "Children" refers to individuals for whom
you are rolling tape; conversely, you will receive your tapes from your
"parent." I will be seeding the tape to an undetermined number of children
that serve as branches, who will have their own children to attend to. The
bottom level of the tree -- those who receive the tapes, but aren't
responsible for making copies for anyone else -- are leaves (and children,
obviously). I recognize that this is a very poor explanation, but for
further detail on how a tape tree works, contact me privately. I don't
want to clutter up the list with this, since most people already know how
these go, or don't care. I am sure that there is an FAQ out there
somewhere that explains this.

* Please remember that there are four tapes in this tree, so a branch with
5 leaves will end up spinning 20 tapes. Keep that in mind when answering
question #2.

* Branches and leaves alike should expect to supply either an equal number
of DATs in trade, or at least enough blanks to cover their parent's outlay.
Postage from the leaves to their branch would be nice as well. I would
prefer not to see any parents try to ask for 2-for-1 trades or the like,
but I suppose that's up to consenting adults.

* I will try to set up the tree so that those with pro decks and SCMS
strippers are near the top, so that everyone gets the minimum of analog
generations. The lovely Lisa is sending me analog clones (the poor girl
hasn't saved enough tip money yet to afford a Digicon -- +insert your own
joke about Lisa, stripping, and Hooters here+), and I don't have SCMS
stripping capability yet either. I suppose that this means that the first
level of branches under me will be SCMS-encoded, which will need to be
remedied for their children.

* Interested parties in Dwight, NE need not apply without valid ID and
three references who do not also coincidentally live in Dwight, NE. Unless
said parties ante up an Earls Court pro shot, 64 audio tapes, some Fed Ex
tracking numbers, and the aforementioned L.A. 5/17/95 soundboard as the
price of admission.

I am confident that I am missing some crucial information somewhere in
here, and equally confident that I will be alerted of my omissions as soon
as I press "send." I will post a couple of reminders to the list in the
coming days, but just to be safe, RESPOND NOW SO WE CAN GET THIS GOING! I
can't speak for everyone, but I can't wait to hear the new stuff. My copy
of Chicago 10/13/95 is just about worn out, so it will be nice to have some
new material.

Hope to hear from everyone soon -

Andy DeMotte

P.S. Also, a very public THANK YOU for DDLisaW for making these shows
available to the list, particularly considering that the shows took place
not three weeks ago! I can't guess what kinds of favors she had to bestow
on the taper for getting these shows out so quickly, but the mind reels
with the possibilities . . . .
