I like Hot Dog a lot, too.  It's not a very good song by itself, granted,
but in the context of Zepp's overall catalog, it adds more flavor and
variety to the mix.  Other similar songs are Down by the Seaside, D'yer
Maker, Thank You, and maybe even All my Love.

If Led Zeppelin had made only cliche, melodic, easy songs like the above,
then most of us probably wouldn't be fans.  However, I really appreciate
the variety of Zepp's styles, and songs like Hot Dog add yet another
dimension to the multifaceted group, especially in light of heavier darker
songs on the ITTOD like In the Evening or I'm Gonna Crawl.
