P/P Prague - View from the Tape!

Hi Gang:

Greetings once again from the weird weather capitol of the world. It was 16
degrees C yesterday (that's about 60 F) and it is snowing today! This is
the second time that we've had this type of big change over two days. It's
no wonder that everyone is jealous of us! :)

I just finished listening to a tape of the P/P Prague show and I thought
I'd share some impressions. I was more than a bit surprised at how good the
show sounded. Now, don't flame me or anything but with Jimmy being 54, Rob
being nearly the big 50, and the set list being virtually identical to the
US second leg, I thought it wouldn't be too exciting to hear the show.

Boy, was I ever wrong!! Jimmy blasts into songs and sustains the burn
extremely well, Plant sings up a storm and then there's Michael Lee who
would be amazing if he only had one hand and lots of hair. The enthusiasm
shows in every tune and the audience is totally bezerker!

I was also very pleasantly surprised by the new songs from the new CD.
Walking into Clarksdale was a full on jam, Most High was a swirl of various
influences from round the world (with the accent on arabic) and Burning up
was just plain fun with the slow burn of an IMTOD or Achilles.

Plant mainly stoked the audience by talking about recent olympic
achievements (especially hockey), and saying what fun it was to be there
for the first time. I'm glad that he finally decided to change the spiel
before Gallow's Pole. The "in the olden days" speech was getting kinda
stale.

It was even kinda fun listening to a couple of people near the mike talking
(usually one of my pet peeves about concert goers and tapes). I don't
understand a word of Czech but I could just imagine the conversation going
something like this "hey, don't suck on it". "Breathe it in slowly".
Whoops! Wrong era!

Thor, my friend and ally, I thought that I'd agree with your post about not
wanting to see the show again since I'd already seen 20 gigs on the last
tour and the set list is virtually identical, but I was just plain wrong. I
would (and will!) pay money to see the show again. I'm just hoping that
they insert a few more new songs in the set since the only way to really
appreciate music is live.

Yes, I do trade tapes, but I can ONLY trade DAT. If someone wants to set up
a tree, I'd be glad to seed it.
