Third of the Third

Today is one of only twelve days in the year when the poor, misguided
folk of North America get to write the date correctly. As a celebration
of this, I urge you all to rummage in your collection right away and dig
out one or more of the following.

2/2/69 Toronto
I think I'll give this one a miss. I still haven't fully recovered from
making 30 branch tapes for the tree.

3/3/69 London
The historic first BBC radio session. Official-releases-only types can
participate on this one.

8/8/69 San Bernadino
You can only really hear Pagey in this one, but that's enough!

9/9/70 Boston
No licence, no festival, no second verse of Heartbreaker, but a decent
sized chunk of Ramble On in the medley.

9/9/71 Hampton
Now we're talking! Perhaps not quite as good as the best shows from
this era (L.A., Boston, Berkeley) but a mind-blower nonetheless, and a
nice soundboard recording.

10/10/72 Kyoto
Bet you haven't played this one in a while. Check it out.

12/12/72 Cardiff
A bit of an obscurity due to it's fragmentary nature and below average
sound quality.

5/5/73 Tampa
A famous, record breaking event. It's early in the tour and the band
haven't really found top gear yet, but this is still a hugely satisfying
listening experience.

7/7/80 Berlin
At times it sounds embarrassingly tired. At others, the spark of
improvisation seems to be returning. A suitably paradoxical performance
to end the live career of Led Zeppelin.

Some people, including me, are never satisfied, so I'm looking forward
to adding these to the list:

11/11/71 Newcastle
There's no doubt that this one is out there somewhere. Check out "The
Concert File".

6/6/72 Detroit
This one's less certain, but the hoarders are said to have it, along
with better and more complete sources of the Detroit 1973 shows.

Oh well, the others will do for now. I think I'll start with San
Bernadino.
